DOWN SYNDROME NSW AND NSW ART GALLERY HOST EXCLUSIVE EVENT AT THE ARCHIBALD PRIZE

Down Syndrome NSW, in collaboration with the NSW Art Gallery, held a special event on Sunday 14 July 2024 to celebrate the artistic achievements within our community at this year's prestigious Archibald Prize.

This year's Archibald Prize proudly features three remarkable artists with Down Syndrome:

  • Digby Webster - "Trevor, My Filmmaker with Camera"
  • Emily Crockford - "Singing with My Selfie at the Top of the World with My Imagination"
  • Meagan Pelham - "Highlight in the Moonlight"

Over 70 members from Down Syndrome NSW commenced the day with a guided tour of the Archibald Prize exhibition, giving special attention to the captivating works of Digby Webster, Emily Crockford, and Meagan Pelham.

The group then transitioned to the Learning Space in the gallery's modern building, awash with natural light, for a delightful morning tea and a creative art session. Members were inspired to produce their own beautiful pieces of art.

Key addresses were given by Danielle Gullotta, Senior Access Programs Producer - NSW Art Gallery, who was integral in leading the coordination and success of the event, and Emily Caska, CEO - Down Syndrome NSW. We were particularly honored to have Digby Webster, one of our featured artists, present to share his inspiration alongside Catherine McGuiness, a 2023 Archibald Prize contestant.

Adding to the day’s excitement, Jezz Smith, one of our ambassadors, was on hand capturing stunning portraits of our families and friends.

This event was a heartfelt celebration of the incredible talent and creativity within the Down Syndrome community, highlighting the powerful impact of inclusive artistic expression.
