Down Syndrome NSW Successful in Disability Advocacy Futures Program Funding
On World Down Syndrome Day, the NSW Government announced a two year extension for $28 million, recognising the value of the program and the outcomes it has delivered. Down Syndrome NSW has proudly delivered the DAFP for the past three years and was granted a two year extension under this recent announcement.
“We warmly welcome this much needed investment in advocacy for a further 2-year period, with advocacy organisations forming such an essential part of the ecosystem of trusted and independent supports for people with disability.
“The DAFP to date has had a significant impact on our community, ensuring that people with disability, their parents and siblings are informed, confident and connected.
“This in turn contributes greatly to our overarching aim of ensuring that people with disability are valued and active citizens within their thriving, vibrant and diverse communities across NSW.”
In his report on disability, advocacy and funding in NSW, the NSW Ageing and Disability Commissioner, Mr Robert Fitzgerald AM, recommended a renewed program of disability advocacy funding for the NSW Government under the Disability Advocacy Futures Program (DAFP).
Starting in 2022, the DAFP supports approximately 1.4 million people living with disability in NSW to access NSW Government funded and delivered services.
